Learning to play the guitar can be an easy and fun endeavor, if you use a progressive approach to your guitar lessons. Learning basic guitar chords first is a quick and easy way to start playing quickly. Obviously, there are many chords to learn and some are a little tricky – so where do you start?
When you are first beginning to learn to play the guitar, one of the first chords you should learn is the easy c chord. This simple chord form only requires one finger, which makes the tasks of getting a good sound and changing to other chords very easy. See the chord diagram pictured below for an example:
If you’re just beginning to learn how to play guitar chords, this lesson will show you three easy chords that you can use to play many different songs on the guitar. The simple guitar chords we will be focusing on will be what are called the ‘Easy’ forms of the C, G and G7 chords. The C chord and the G7 chord only use the index finger, while the G chord uses the ring finger. Each of these simple guitar chord forms only needs one finger to play – EASY!

Guitar chords are simply groups of notes played together at the same time, or ‘strummed’, on the guitar.

Once you have learned several chords, you will be able to play most popular song by reading a “chord and lyrics sheet”. Also, a wide range of guitar playing styles can be achieved by simply changing the technique in which the chords are played. For instance, strumming the chords quickly and aggressively can give you either a rock or Flamenco feel, depending on the chords.
